Food is Prisons is downright rotten!
People incarcerated in federal prisons in Canada and their advocates have long complained about the quality of food behind bars.
In 2014, Correctional Services Canada implemented their “Food Services Modernization Initiative” promising a more efficient and cost-effective food service model. However, this centralized “cook-chill” model has made a bad situation even worse. The quality of food has decreased and incarcerated individuals have less control and autonomy over the food they eat.
Articles written by incarcerated folks over the past few years in the Journal of Prisoners on Prisons paint a disturbing picture. We selected some of those quotes to share in a series of graphics designed by the Public Studio. Check them out below and share them within your networks!
